The 3 Pillars of Partner Enablement (and How to Execute Them)

A decade or so ago, I had the good fortune to spend a few days in a partner’s office learning exactly what a real day-in-the-life looks like. I shadowed different team members to see what challenges them and how a vendor could truly help.

I sat with sales, finance, operations, customer service, and the CEO. They all had vastly different daily goals, but their expectations of a vendor boiled down to the same three things:

To truly win a partner's focus, a brand has to deliver on three pillars:
  • A clear value prop: Make a great product, but also make sure the story is concise and easy for them to retell.
  • An accelerated growth path: Align your offering so the partner can scale bigger, faster, and easier.
  • Strong customer demand: Build enough market pull that the partner isn't stuck pushing your product uphill.

Why it matters: the power of partner choice

A crisp, three-panel infographic showing 3 pillars
Partners have a choice. They can choose to focus their limited time and energy on your product, or they can look elsewhere.

If your product doesn’t work, they won’t sell it. If no one understands what it does, they can’t sell it. If your operational processes make it harder for them to run their business, they will ignore it. And lastly, if the end customer isn’t pulling for it, they’ll simply move on.

4 ways a channel marketer can knock it out of the park

So, what does successful enablement look like in practice? Here are four ways channel marketers can move the needle:
  • Understand product/market fit: While defining the product might not be the channel marketer’s primary responsibility, understanding its fit is critical. You need this context to guide partners, prevent them from chasing the wrong deals, and help them stay focused.
  • Humanize the product story: Translate the "speeds and feeds" into human terms. Buyers and sellers need to understand the actual outcomes achieved with your product. Make it real, not theoretical.
  • Reduce friction, increase reward: Ensure your quoting, ordering, and onboarding processes are entirely frictionless. Remove wasted energy, waiting, and lost time at every touchpoint. When a partner puts effort into selling your product, it should represent their absolute best path to growth.
  • Create demand with and for your partners: Synchronize corporate-driven demand generation with through-partner campaigns. When these efforts are tightly aligned, you build massive momentum. Disconnected campaigns slow everyone down, no matter how creative they are.

Moving from theory to execution

A decade later, these principles still hold entirely true. In fact, at RVLVR, they form the exact framework we use when working with some of the biggest brands in the world and their partners.

Here is what this looks like when brought to life:

Clarifying the value prop

We recently completed a wave of new sales tools designed to help a major brand’s sales and partner teams understand exactly how they stack up against the competition – and, more importantly, why those differences matter to customers. We built industry-centric decks, one-page overviews, and a stack of quick-reference cheat sheets that partners can hang on their walls to keep the story top of mind.

Humanizing the tech

For a different brand, we took a highly complex, multi-brand reference architecture and translated it into a clear, intuitive infographic. It retains enough technical detail to remain deeply credible for engineers, while allowing non-technical buyers to instantly grasp the architecture and its core business benefits.

Mapping the true customer journey

Early this year, a brand asked us to audit the customer journey for one of their core products. Our recommendation? Speak to the entire buying committee, not just the technical team. They were completely missing vital information tailored for purchasing, finance, operations, and the end-user. We mapped out a "choose your own adventure" funnel, allowing every stakeholder on the committee to get the exact data they need to clear the deal.

The RVLVR approach

The RVLVR Way: define goals, learn buyers, talk to partners
Our approach is different from traditional agencies. We start at the end and work backward.

Before we build anything, we want to soak in the desired outcome of your campaign. We want to learn about your buyers and sellers – their specific likes, dislikes, and daily friction points. We read your datasheets, but then we want to see your product in action. We talk directly to your customers and partners to get their unvarnished perspective.

Only then do we get to work designing campaigns, sales tools, and customer journeys that cut through the noise and move the needle.

Whether you want to leverage our platform, our agency services, or our strategic consulting, we can help your brand and your partners reach your goals faster and easier. Let's build something that works.
